Welcome back to Rebirth Island!
The excitement is palpable with the map’s return, first in Call of Duty: Warzone Mobile, and now in Call of Duty: Warzone with the launch of Season 3. Explore the Call of Duty: Warzone Rebirth Island: Tac-Atlas Guide for a comprehensive overview. Despite its smaller size, Rebirth Island promises fast-paced and intense combat. Whether you’re a seasoned visitor or a newcomer, there’s a lot to discover with the latest updates and challenges.
We spoke with Assistant Creative Director Karl Beauregard, Senior Associate Producer Corinne Bernier St-Pierre, Senior System Designer Mathieu Hunter, and Senior Lead Designer Richard Dubreuil at Beenox to get the inside scoop on what’s new.
What should fans expect from Rebirth Island this time?
Karl Beauregard shared, “We developed the new Rebirth Island alongside the original to ensure it retains the essence players love, while adding gameplay and visual enhancements to make it the best version yet. All the little secrets you remember are still there. For instance, if you could activate the shower before, you still can. This attention to detail is crucial for maintaining the nostalgic experience. However, you’ll also notice new improvements and secrets.”
How did the process start when you were asked to bring the map back?
Corinne Bernier St-Pierre explained, “Rebirth Island was originally created during the Black Ops era, so modernizing it for the Modern Warfare III timeline was a challenge. We thought about what would make sense to players. We created a narrative where the island was abandoned for years, but now Makarov has returned and is using it for his own purposes. This is why there’s a new Point of Interest (POI) update at the Chemical Lab, for instance.”
Tell us about Resurgence Champion’s Quest coming to Rebirth Island.
Mathieu Hunter revealed, “Champion’s Quest for Resurgence Mode is launching with Season 3. It’s extremely challenging, requiring perfect execution. Every second counts, and any hesitation can lead to failure. We designed it to be the ultimate Resurgence Champion’s Quest.”
What are Rebirth Infil Strikes?
Richard Dubreuil explained, “Rebirth Infil Strikes will dynamically alter the map. POIs can be blown up at the start of a match, but these events will be rare and random to keep gameplay fresh. For example, the Water Tower can be destroyed, removing a key vantage point but creating new cover on the ground. Similarly, we’ve added a hole in the roof of the Prison, reminiscent of the first version of Rebirth Island in Warzone, opening up new strategic opportunities.”
