We’ve seen a strong push for cross-play over the past few years from both players and developers, with only a couple of publishers, including Sony, still not entirely on board with the idea. But just as the last remaining outliers are slowly starting to come around, the ones having second thoughts now seem to be the players. Or at least that seems to be the case at the moment when it comes to Call of Duty Warzone. The popular battle royale’s hacker problem reached new heights earlier this month and it looks like players are finally fed up with it.
Warzone players recently took to Reddit to complain about the ongoing situation and discuss a simple yet effective solution that would fix the hacker problem for a big chunk of the community – remove crossplay between consoles and PC. As I’m sure you already know, the vast majority of hackers are PC players so this solution would definitely improve the situation for those playing on consoles. The solution is admittedly a bit extreme but it might end up happening if Activision and Raven aren’t able to find another way to fix the problem. Which has been going on for many months at this point.
Unsurprisingly, the idea of implementing console-only crossplay for Warzone sparked a pretty heated debate on Reddit, with plenty of people on both sides of the argument. On one hand, most console players seem to be in favor of the idea since it would drastically reduce the number of hackers they’re likely to encounter moving forward. Meanwhile, another group of players worries that a solution like that would pretty much spell doom for the PC version of Call of Duty Warzone. Isolating all the hackers to one platform would essentially make the PC version unplayable.
Back in April, Warzone developer Raven Software expressed its frustration at the hacker problem and vowed that it would do everything in its power to stop it. But despite the myriad of bans and updates, things have only gotten worse since then. Just last month news came out that hackers were creating custom skins for their characters and now even a Warzone world record holder is being accused of cheating. Given the magnitude of the problem, it’s unclear when or if the developers will be able to fix it. The longer they wait, the more appealing the solution proposed on Reddit seems.
