E3 2021 is expected to feature a great number of highly anticipated games from some of the biggest publishers in the industry. Unfortunately, one of the games that won’t be showcased during the event is Call of Duty: Vanguard, the latest entry in Activision’s massively popular FPS series. This is according to VGC who cite sources close to the project. The outlet also mentions that Activision is preparing a full Vanguard reveal later this summer.
Call of Duty: Vanguard is set to once again tackle the WW2 setting when it launches in November for PC and consoles, both current and last-gen. The developers this time around are Sledgehammer Games, the same folks who brought us Black Ops Cold War, the Modern Warfare remake, and Call of Duty: WW2, to name just a few of their previous projects. In typical Call of Duty fashion, Vanguard promises to be bigger and better than its predecessors, though it looks like we’ll have to wait a while longer to find out exactly what that entails.
Interestingly enough, the big Vanguard reveal will reportedly coincide with a massive Warzone tie-in event that’s also scheduled to launch this summer. This sounds very similar to last year’s reveal of Black Ops Cold War. We don’t have any concrete details surrounding this event either so we’ll just have to wait and see what Activation has in store for us.
Meanwhile, VGC’s report also mentions a brand new WW2-themed Warzone map set to launch in November alongside Call of Duty: Vanguard. It looks like this will be an even bigger step back in time after the current map sent players to the 80s when it was introduced in April. The new map is expected to be quite a bit bigger than Verdansk ’84 and will, in fact, be the series’ largest and most ambitious map to date if the report is to be believed. Activision has certainly invested a lot into Warzone thus far so it wouldn’t be too surprising to see them go all out with this new map.
The thought of having to wait until November for Vanguard and the new Warzone map is frustrating, but we won’t necessarily have to twiddle our thumbs until then. That’s because Warzone season 4 is just around the corner. Season 4 kicked off for the mobile version of the game in late May and brought with it a bunch of exciting new content centered around a Wild West theme. We’re not sure if Warzone season 4 will also follow this trend but we’re likely to find out in the coming days during E3 2021.
